I keep a file of notes on toys I’m currently reviewing. Typically I’ll note things like size, charging time, types of vibrations… and then there’s the Lelo Mona 2. My note says “verrrrrrry rumble much orgasm wow like hey g spot what up.” That pretty much sums up most of my feelings.
Now, I’m not going to say that this toy is perfect. It’s a little too pointy for me, I hate the buttons with a passion, and it doesn’t quite rumble enough like my current favorite, the Sola Cue. But it is a good internal vibrator. It’s waterproof, which I love, with six different patterns. Even though I only ever like the steady ones, I suppose it’s nice to have the option.
The Mona 2 also has a battery indication light, which solves a lot of my issues around not knowing which toys are charged, and how much charge they actually have. A two hour charge means two hours of play… if you manage to keep the charger. I seemed to immediately lose mine, which is unusual, and unfortunately the Mona 2 doesn’t share a charger with another toy I own like many others.
The motor is fairly quiet, and even though the buzz increases as the speed increases, the two lowest settings are rumbly enough to satisfy me. The shape is nice as well; it has a narrow neck that doesn’t make me feel too full (though size royalty might find it disappointing). It is a little pointy, so if I’m about to have my period and my cervix is lower, it’s pokey and uncomfortable.
All that said, my real beef with this toy is the fact that it’s a Lelo toy. I’ve heard endless praise for this toy and I wanted to try it since I’ve become something of an internal vibration fiend. But supporting a Lelo toy without highlighting the issues that the brand has doesn’t seem ethical to me in the slightest. So let’s review what Lelo has done in the past:
- Hired a known abuser as a spokesperson
- Created a condom that is actually less safe and puts more people at risk
- Patent trolling
- And unfortunately… lots, lots more.
Lelo isn’t a company that I can ethically support. Their toys have long been lauded, but there are so many other options out now that it’s no longer the only luxury toy brand out there. I can’t excuse the behavior from Lelo. If you’re looking for other companies that you’d like to avoid based on ethics, Lilly has a great blacklist with a ton of detail.
So, with all that in mind, would I recommend the Lelo Mona 2? No. Not because of the quality of the toy, but because of the quality of the company. You can get similar experiences from the Sola Cue, the L’amourose Prism V, the Jopen Key Comet Wand, or the Swan Wand. These are all great, rumbly, internal vibrators with some intense g-spot focus… from companies that don’t support sexual abuse.
